এই জীবনে জানার কোনো শেষ নাই, এই কথাটা আমি হাড়ে হাড়ে বুঝেছিলাম আমার মেজো এক্সের সাথে দেখা হওয়ার পর।

ঢাকা থেকে রাজশাহী আসছি। ধূমকেতু এক্সপ্রেসের ঘ নম্বর বগিতে বসে আছি। মুখোমুখি সিট পাওয়াতে কিছুটা বিরক্ত। ট্রেনে উঠে বই পড়ার অভ্যাস বহুদিনের। সিটে বসেই বই মেলে ধরলাম মুখের সামনে। বইয়ের মলাটে লেখা আছে, ইন দ্য লাইট উই সি, লেখক: জিয়া হায়দার রহমান। কিন্তু মলাটের ভেতরে আছে অন্য জিনিস। কাশেম বিন আবু বকরের পাহাড়ী ললনা।

কিছুক্ষণ পর টাকমাথার আঙ্কেল টাইপের একটা লোক এসে সামনের সিটে বসেই হাত বাড়িয়ে দিলো। বললো, আমি মাহমুদুল হাসান পিএইচডি।
আমি মৃদু হেসে আবার বইতে মনোযোগ দিলাম।

LOVE AT CLASS 8

তখন ক্লাস এইটে পড়ি। বয়স কম থাকলেও পেঁকে গিয়েছিলাম বেশি। অনেক ছেলেদের প্রপোস পেতে পেতে পড়াশোনা চিন্তা বাদ দিয়ে, কাকে রেখে কার সাথে প্রেম করবো, এই নিয়ে চিন্তা করতাম বেশি। এইভাবেই টেনে হেঁচরে ক্লাস এইট পার করলাম। নাইনে উঠে বান্ধুবিদের আশকারা পেয়ে নিলাম কমার্স। যদিও অংকে আমি খুবই কাচা। আমার বড় বোন মাঝে মাঝেই বলে,অংক নাকি আমার জন্য তৈরি হয়নি। যাই হোক তবুও কমার্সই নিলাম। কেনো নিয়েছিলাম তার উত্তর এখোনো খুঁজে পাইনা...।যেহেতু কমার্স নিয়েছি,সেহেতু হিসাব বিজ্ঞান প্রাইভেট তু পরতেই হবে। ৪ বান্ধবি মিলে এক স্যারকে ঠিক করলাম।

 স্যার প্রাইভেট পরাবেন সকাল ৬ টায়...। ইস, সকালে ঘুম থেকে ওঠা যে কি বিরক্তিকর তা তখন হারে হারে টের পেতাম। ঘুম থেকে উঠেও গুমিয়ে গুমিয়ে প্রাইভেট পড়তে যাই।ভালই চলছিলো। হটাৎ করে একদিন খেয়াল করলাম প্রাইভেট পড়তে যাওয়ার সময় আমাদের পিছন পিছন একটা ছেলেও আসে। কিছুদিন পর্যন্ত বিষয়টারআগা মাথা কিছুই বুঝতে পারলাম না....। বান্ধবি আমরা চার জন.. ছেলেটা আসে কার জন্য?তা তখনো খুলসা না। এইভাবে বেশকিছু দিন যাওয়ার পর, বুঝতে পারলাম ছেলেটা আমার জন্যই আসে। "কে কার পিছে গুরছে,, কে কাকে দেখছে? মেয়েরা এসব খুব ভালো করে বুঝতে পারে"। এই পাওয়ার সব মেয়েদেরই আছে মনে হয়। বান্ধবিরাও বুঝতে পেরে গেলো। আর বুঝতে পারার সাথে সাথে এই নিয়ে তারা আমার সাথে মজা করা শুরু করে দিলো। তবে এইযে ছেলেটা পিছন পিছন আসে, মুখে কিছু না বল্লেও, বিষয়টা কিন্তুু আমার ভালোই লাগতো...।আমার এখনো মনে আছে, সে আমার পিছনে প্রায় ৩ মাসের মতো গুরেছিলো। তারপর আমাদের স্কুলে স্পোর্টস হওয়ার সময় হলো।যদিও আমি কখনোই কোনো খেলায় অংশগ্রহণ করতাম না।

 স্পোর্টস এর দিন খুব সেজে গুজে গেলাম স্কুলে। দুপুরের দিকে সেও তার বন্ধুদেরকে নিয়ে খেলা দেখতে আসলো স্কুলে.....। স্পোর্টস শেষ হলো,,।তখন প্রায় সন্ধা। বারিতে আসার জন্য রাস্তায় উঠলাম...। সাথে এক ঝাক বান্দবি...। হটাৎ করে পিছন থেকে কেউ ডাক দিলো আমার নাম ধরে....।তখন ভয়ে আমার আত্না উরে যাওয়ার অবস্থা। একবার সবাই পিছন ফিরে তাকিয়ে আবার হাটা শুরু করলাম.....। ২ মিনিট পর আবার কেউ নাম ধরে ডাকছে। সবাই এক সাথে দারালাম...। ৪/৫ জন ছেলে আমাদের কাছে আসলো। সেও আছে সেখানে,কিন্তু সে আমাকে ডাক দেয়নি,, ডাক দিয়েছে তার আরেক বন্ধু।৪/৫ জন ছেলেত মাঝখান থেকে এক ছেলে আমার দিকে তার হাত বাড়িয়ে দিলো। দেখলাম হাতে একটা কাগজ...। ছেলেটা বল্লো,এইটা কাগজ টা নেন,,। আমি আর ধরিনা। নিচের দিকে তাকিয়ে আছি। আর আমার বান্দবিরা সব আমার দিকে তাকিয়ে আছে,...।

ছেলেটা যখন দেখলো আমি কাগজ টা ধরছি না,,তখন আমার আরেক বান্ধবির হাতে কাগজটা দিয়ে বললো, এই নেন আপনাদের বান্ধবিকে বলবেন,, এই কাগজটা যেনো বাড়িতে গিয়ে খুলে। বারিতে এসে কাগজ খুলে দেখলাম কাগজে একটা নাম্বার লেখা। সেই নাম্বারটা এখনো আমার মুখস্থ,চেষ্টা করেও ভুলতে পারিনি। তখন আমার মুবাইল নাই। মায়ের মুবাইল দিয়ে বান্ধবিদের সাথে মাঝে মাঝে দরকারি কথা বলি। প্রথম ভেবেছিলাম কাগজ টা ছিরে ফেলি। কি ভেবে যেনো ছিরলাম না, বইয়ের ভিতর রেখে দিলাম। দুইতিন দিন পর থেকে ফলো করলাম, ছেলেটা আর আমার পিছনে ঘুরছে না,, সে আমার সামনে দিয়ে গুরছে। আমাকে আগের মতো আর পাত্তা দিচ্ছে না। আমিতো মনে মনে রাগে ফায়ার। এভাবে তিন চারদিন গেলো।একদিন রাতে বইয়ের ভিতর থেকে সেই কাগজটা হাতে নিলাম। আমার একদম মনে আছে, তখন রাত ১০ টা বাজে। মায়ের মুবাইল দিয়ে চুপি চুপি তার নাম্বারে একটা মিসকল দিলাম। বেক করলোনা,,৫ মিনিট যাওয়ার পরে আবার ডিড়েক্ট কল দিলাম,, এবার সে রিছিব করলো...। ফোন ধরার পর আমি তাকে কি বলবো কিছুই বুঝতে পারছিলাম না। সে হেলো হেলো করতে থাকলো। ১ মিনিট চুপ করে থেকে লাইন কেটে দিলাম। সে বুঝতেও পারলো না যে এটা আমি ছিলাম.....। 

পরেরদিন স্কুলে যাওয়ার সময় তাকে দেখলাম রাস্তায়। তার সামনে দিয়ে যাওয়ার সময়, টেকনিক খাটিয়ে এক বান্দবিকে দিয়ে ঝুরে ঝুরে বলালাম, যে আমার নাম্বারের শেষে ৪২.......। তখন সে বুঝতে পারলো যে গত রাতে আমিই তাকে কল দিছিলাম। সেই দিন থেকেই শুরু হলো তার সাথে রাত জেগে কথা বলা। একাই থাকতাম আমি। কতো কষ্ট করে যে মায়ের মুবাইল চুরি করতাম, সেইসব ঘটনা মনে হলে এখনো একা একাই হাসি..। এমনও সময় গেছে যে ফোনে কথা বলতে বলতে খাট থেকে পড়ে গেছি। আস্তে আস্তে দেখা করাও শুরু হলো। এই চিপায়, অই চিপায় দাড়ায়া দাড়ায়া কথা বলতাম। অনেকবার ধরা খেতে গিয়েও ধরা খাইনি,..। এইসব করতে করতেই ক্লাস টেইনে উঠলাম। রেসাল্ট খুবই খারাপ হলো, তাতে অবশ্য আমার কোনো মন খারাপ নাই। আমি আছি তখন প্রেম নিয়ে...। ক্লাস টেইনে উঠার পর মনে হয় এমন একদিন ছিলোনা যেদিন আমার তার সাথে দেখা হয়নি। শুক্রবারে স্কুল বন্ধ থাকায় সে আমার বাড়ির সামনে এসে দাঁড়ায়ে থাকতো....। কি সুন্দর ছিলো সময় গুলা,চোখের সামনে এখনো ভাসে স্মৃতি গুলা। দেখতে দেখতে এসএসসি দেওয়ার সময় চলে এলো। পরিক্ষার কিছুদিন আগে হটাৎ করেই আমার মা স্ট্রুক করে মারা গেলেন। একদম ভেঙে পরলাম আমি। কিসের পরিক্ষা,কিসের কি?আমার মা মারা গেছে, এটা আমি কিচ্ছুতেই মানতে পারছিলামনা। এখনো মানতে পারিনা। দিন রাত কান্না করে পার করতাম। মিথ্যা বলবোনা,,সে প্রথম প্রথম আমাকে অনেক সাপোর্ট দিতো,পাশে থাকতো। পরিক্ষা দিলাম, পাশও করলাম......।সে ততদিন পর্যন্ত আমার পাশেই ছিলো। তখন সে হনার্স সেকেন্ড ইয়ারে পড়ে...।হটাৎ করে সে বল্লো,তার বাড়ি থেকে চাকরির জন্য চাপ দিচ্ছে। তার বরাবরই পুলিশ হওয়ার ইচ্ছা ছিলো,তাই সে পুলিশ হওয়ার চেষ্টা শুরু করলো....।। 

সব কিছু ঠিকঠাক হয়েও গেলো, সে ট্রেনিং এ চলে গেলো। ততদিনে আমি ইন্টার ফ্রাস্ট ইয়ার প্রায় শেষ করে ফেলেছি । এম্নিতে সে ট্রেনিং এ ছিলো বলে যোগাযোগ তেমন ছিলোনা। কিন্তু দেখা গেলো ট্রেনিং থেকে আসার পরও আর তেমন ভাবে যোগাযোগ করেনা সে। আমি ফোন দিলে রিছিভ করে ,,কিন্তুু নিজ থেকে ফোন দেয় না। কথায় বিরক্তি প্রকাশ করে। আরো নানান সমস্যা দেখা দিতে থাকলো। আমি বুঝতে পারছিলাম সে আর আমার কাছে থাকতে চাইছেনা। কিন্তুু আমি এটা কিছুতেই মেনে নিতে পারছিলাম না,। তার বন্ধুদের সাথে কথা বল্লাম, কেউই এইটার কোনো সুলেইশন দিতে পারলোনা, আমি তার কাছে দিনের পর দিন হাত জুর করতে থাকলাম,......৷প্রচন্ড ভালোবেসে ফেলেছিলাম তাকে। কিন্তুু সত্যি কথা হলো,যে থাকতে চায় না, তাকে কোনোভাবেই আটকে রাখা যায় না,। চলে গেলো সে,.....। কান্না করতে করতে দিন যেতে থাকলো আমার,। কিছুতেই মানতে পারছিলামনা। যে আমার পিছনে এমন ভাবে গুরতো, সে কিভাবে আমাকে একদম ভুলে গেলো,? এসব কিভাবে সম্ভব.......?এইভাবে না খেয়ে দেয়ে, না ঘুমিয়ে, ৪/৫ মাস গেলো।সবসময় তার কথা মনে হতো,, খাওয়ার সময়,ঘুমানুর সময়, গোসলের সময়, এমনকি মুত্তে যাওয়ার সময়। কোনো ভাবেই প্রতারক টাকে ভুলতে পারছিলাম না....। 

তারপর নিজে ভালো থাকার জন্য হাজারটা রিলেশন করতে থাকলাম.....অনেক ছেলেকে কষ্ট দিতে থাকলাম, আর কিছুই করার ছিলোনা আমার....। কি করলে ভালো লাগবে, শুধু সেটাই ভাবতাম তখন,। যখন যেই ছেলের সাথে ইচ্ছা হতো, তখন তার সাথেই কথা বলতাম,। এসব করেও কিছুতেই প্রতারক টাকে ভুলতে পারছিলা না।, কেনো সে আমাকে ছেরে গেলো?, কি নাই আমার? শুধু এসব চিন্তাই করতাম দিন রাত।, বিচ্ছেদের প্রায় ৩ বছর হয়ে গেলো,।কিছুদিন আগে তার এক ফ্রেন্ডের সাথে ফেসবুকে এড হলাম,। জিজ্ঞেস করলাম সে কেমন আছে এখন,? তারপর জা যানতে পারলাম, তা শুনে মনে হয়েছিলো,এখুন্নি বিষ খেয়ে মরে যাই,। তার বন্ধু বল্লো, তার মা নাকি আমাকে পছন্দ করতো না,। কারন আমার মা মারা গেছে,.... ওনার ছেলে নাকি শুশুর বাড়িতে জামাই আদর পাবে না।, উনি নাকি উনার ছেলেরে দিয়া মাথায় হাত রাইক্ষা দিব্বি করাইছে, আমার সাথে যেনো কথা না বলে। হায় আল্লাহ, আমার মা মারা গেছে এখানে আমার কি দুষ? তা আমি কোনোভাবেই বুঝতে পারলামনা,,। কেমন মা আর কেমন ছেলে,।এসব ছেলেরাযে কেনো প্রেম করার সময় মাবাবাকে জিজ্ঞেস করে প্রেম করে না, আল্লাই জানে। এমন ছেলের সাথে কেনো সম্পর্ক করলাম, এটা নিয়ে এখন আফছুছ হয় আমার। আরো শুনলাম সে নাকি তার মায়ের পছন্দের মেয়েকেই বিয়ে করতে যাচ্ছে। যাক, তবুও চাই সে ভালো থাকুক, ভালো হোক তার। জামাই আদর পাক ভালো করে। আমার বর্তমান অবস্থার কথা আর কি বলবো... এক্টু ভালো থাকার লোভে প্রেমের নামে একের পর এক সর্টফিল্ম করতে করতে ক্লান্ত হয়ে যাচ্ছি....।মাঝে মাঝে মন চায় নিজের জিবনটা শেষ করে দেই… কিন্তু সেই সাহস নাই আমার.......। ভালো থাকবেন সবাই, দোয়া করবেন আমার জন্য.....

Book Fair

There is a great importance of a book fair in the cultural activities of a nation. Nowadays, book fairs are becoming more and more popular in Bangladesh. These are held in different cities and towns on different occasions of national significance days such as ‘Ekusher Boi Mela’ in the Bangla Academy Campus. Every year a book fair (exhibition) is arranged on the campus. Book fairs are now held in district towns also. In a book fair, some publishers set up stalls.

Book lovers such as the teachers, the students, the poets, the writers, the service holders and, some common people crowd there to make their choice and buy books from the stalls. The stalls are beautifully decorated and lighted in order to draw the attention of the customers. Books of different tastes are displayed in the stalls in an attractive way. The distinguished authors personally remain present in the stalls. Consequently, the readers can have a chance to meet their favourite authors. However, a book fair spreads the message that books are our best friends and companions. In fact, a book fair enriches our outlook and makes our life more meaningful.

In Bangladesh there are two main book fairs per year: the Dhaka Book Fair sponsored and arranged by the National Book Centre and the Ekushe Boi Mela arranged by the Bangla Academi. The former was started from January 1, 1996, and the latter had started long before. Both the book fairs are famous and have attracted the attention of book lovers countrywide. The Dhaka Book Fair, by the way, has been internationally known and will most likely be very popular within only a few years.

The Dhaka Book Fair is, as has already been mentioned, arranged by the National Book Centre. It starts on the first day of January each year and normally lasts for fifteen days. This book fair, unlike the Ekushe Boi Mela, encourages the involvement of book companies or publishers from all over the world. This new feature of this book fair has, undoubtedly, made it more enriched and attractive. While the Ekushe Boi Mela with its long tradition is also very famous for its venue and traditional value.

Sajek Vally

Sajek is the biggest union of Bangladesh whose size is 702 square miles. The area is formed with the combination of Sajek Ruiluipara and Konglak Para. Established in 1885, the height of the Ruiluipara is approximately 1720 feet from the sea level and the height of the Konglakpara from the sea level is approximately 1800 feet. Mainly, Sajek is the living place of indigenous people including Lusai, Pankhwa, and Tripura. The banana and orange of Sajek are very famous. Many parts of Rangamati are seen from Sajek Valley. So the Sajek valley is called the roof of Rangamati.

In Sajek, the beautiful mountain in a row, the valley of clouds like white cotton will surely fascinate you. Sajak is a wonderful place where it is surrounded by three types of nature. Sometimes it is very hot or it will probably be wet in the rain and unexpectedly in the twinkling of the white clouds with a thick fog will be covered. Sajek is the ideal place to watch the flutter hilly clouds like natural landscapes and cotton. Konglak hill is a major attraction for tourists who are visiting Sajek. Konglak, the last village of Sajek Valley is the area inhabited by the Lusai community. From the Konglak Hills, you can watch the originates of Karnafuli river, the Lusai Hills of India. If you want to trek through Ruului Para for two hours, you can enjoy the Kamalak fountain. This beautiful fountain is also known to many people as Padaam Toisha Jharna or Sikam Toisha Jharna.

Day or night Sajek is like an awesome art painted by an artist, with the passes of time, Sajek is not old. If you go to Sajek, don’t miss the dawn. The white clouds and the sunrise/sunset light creates an amazing environment. To see the sunrise you have to go Hollypad early in the morning. In the afternoon the color of the sunset from a high land will make you seduced. And after the evening, the billions of stars in the sky will shine, your life will shake you. If the sky is cleaned, you may watch the MilkyWay or the galaxy. You can look around and live the life of indigenous people. It will give you unforgettable feelings by getting the touch of those simple people. Football

Football is a very popular game dating back to the 13th and 14th centuries when it was played in England. Lack of formal rules made it a dangerous game in those days. Today Football is game played in an open field between two teams. The sizes and shapes of the fields vary in different countries.

In the United States, the field is 100 yards long and has lines drawn across it after every 5 yards, in Australia is shaped like an Oval while it is rectangular elsewhere. In some forms of football, the players are allowed to carry the ball in their hands and score a goal.

Soccer is the most popular form of football, it has two teams of 11 players each who move the ball using only their head and feet. The team which shoots the ball The opponent's goalpost is awarded a point a team that scores the maximum points is declared the winner.  

 It is also a famous sport all over the world. By playing football, we can keep our body strong, fit, and flexible, to play football is a good exercise and good for health. It needs a spacious ground. The number of players needed for this game is twenty-two. There are two groups. Each group has eleven players.

Each group has a goalkeeper. There is a center from where the play starts with the referee. He has the power to comment on right or wrong. The players have to maintain the rules of the sport. If any player disobeys him, he is disqualified and comes out of the playground.

When the goal is scored supporters’, joy knows no bound. Exciting claps are seen when a goal is scored. This play at first originated in England. Then it spread almost every nook and corner of the world. Its popularity is increasing day by day.

There are various cricket organizations established on the national and international levels. ICC (International Cricket Council) is the International Cricket regulation body.

In India BCCI (Board of Cricket Council of India) is the Indian Cricket regulation body. These Councils working for a selection of players, their jersey selection, and various other commercial and government rules and regulations for the cricket players.

Every four years, ICC organized the Cricket World cup on the international level. In 2023, India will completely host the Cricket world cup. 

Various National level Cricket tournaments like Ranji Trophy, Duleep Trophy, Irani Trophy, etc are organized yearly in India. For aspiring cricket players, various Cricket Coaching Classes are established.

There are various Cricket Stadiums in India. Indian Premier League (IPL) is one of the cricket attractions. IPL matches are celebrated as a festival by the cricket lovers in India. Various famous cricket players like Sachin Tendulkar, Mashrafee Bin Martuza, M.S. Dhoni, Tamim Iqbal, and Ricky Ponting are some of the inspirational figures for the youths across the world.

For a player, for a viewer, for an admirer of cricket, it is a source of inspiration. Parents always encourage their kids to participate in cricket matches at the school/college level. It is not only helpful in their physical fitness. But, it will also regularise the habit of playing outdoor sports.

 

Bangladesh

The name of our country is the People's Republic of Bangladesh. It is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. Our country was a part of Pakistan before 1971. Then we freed our country and achieved victory after nine month's liberation war. 3 million people sacrificed their lives in the liberation war in 1971. 

Our independence day is 26th March and Victory day is 16th December. The national language of our country is Bangla. It is also a matter of great pride for us that we are the only nation who sacrificed their lives for the sake of their mother tongue on 21st February of 1952. In order to show respect to them, UNESCO has declared 21st February as International Mother Language Day. 

The name of the capital of Bangladesh is Dhaka. It is the busiest and populated city in our country. The total population is 16 crore. The total area of our country is 1,47,570 square km. Our country is a river-oriented country.

The main rivers of our country are Padma, Jamuna, Meghna. But due to pollution and river pollution, all of these rivers have shrunk. People of all religions live peacefully in this country but most of them are Muslim. The famous places for tourist's visits to our country are Sundarban, Cox'sBazar, St Martin, Kuakata. Sundarban is the largest Mangrove forest in the world.

 Cox's Bazar has the longest sea beach. The main occasion that people celebrate is Eid Ul Fitr, Eid Ul Adha, Pahela Baishakh, etc. Bangladesh is a developing country. The economics of this country is mainly based on agriculture. The main crops that this country produces are rice, jute, tea, fruit, etc. The country also earns a large amount of foreign remittance by exporting RMG and Manpower. 

The main food that the inhabitant of this country eat is rice and fish. Hilsha is the national fish and Doyel is the national bird of our country. The national beast of the country is the Royal Bengal Tiger. The national bird of our country is Doyel and the national flower is Shapla. Hadudu is the national game of our country but Cricket is the most popular game. People of this country know how to live happily and peacefully within poverty and national hazards.

The Taj Mahal

Shah Jahan was the fifth ruler of the Mughal dynasty. During his third regnal year, his favorite wife, known as Mumtaz Mahal, died due to complications arising from the birth of their fourteenth child.

In general terms, Sunni Muslims favor a simple burial, under an open sky.  But notable domed mausolea for Mughals (as well as for other Central Asian rulers) were built prior to Shah Jahan’s rule, so in this regard, the Taj is not unique.

Shah Jahan built the Taj Mahal in Agra, where he took the throne in 1628. First conquered by Muslim invaders in the eleventh century, the city had been transformed into a flourishing area of trade during Shah Jahan’s rule. Situated on the banks of the Yamuna River allowed for easy access to water.

The Taj Mahal is rightly the top destination for millions of travelers. As global tourism grows and the economic pressures of the industry continue to increase, the authorities who oversee the site must strive to implement legal and structural measures to ensure that this irreplaceable monument survives.

The Star Mosque

Star Mosque is a famous Mosque for its architectural beauty. Star Mosque is situated in Abdul Khairat Road, Armanitola, in the old part of Dhaka City.

Originally it was an oblong (10.06m x 4.04m) three-domed mosque. There were three mihrabs on the Qibla wall in alignment with the three doorways of the mosque, of which the central one was larger than the side ones. The prayer chamber was roofed with three domes, the central one being taller and larger than the other two.

In 1926 a local businessman named Alijan Bepari added a verandah to the mosque on its eastern side, thereby almost doubling the width of the mosque without changing its original plan. Five arches were erected on four pillars on the eastern facade of the verandah.

In 1987 the three-domed mosque was transformed into a five-domed mosque. The mosque, both inside and outside, is decorated with a mosaic. Small chips of Chinaware-plate, cup, etc, and pieces of glass have been used for the mosaic.

This type of mosaic is called 'Chini Tikri' work. Vase with flowers is an important decorative motif on the spandrel of the arches and elsewhere on the facade. Flower-vases, flower branches, Rosset, crescent, star, and Arabic calligraphic writing have been used in the decoration of the mosque.

The Star Mosque is an interesting site to watch for the tourists.

The Shat Gambuj Mosque

The ‘Shat Gambuj Mosque’ in Bagerhat is such a heritage. It became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985.

Originally, the historic Mosque City was known as ‘Khalifatabad’. It is situated on the outskirts of Bagerhat Town. It was founded by the Turkish general, a saint warrior Ulugh Khan Jahan in the 15^th century. The planning of the city was dominated by the tradition of Islamic architecture and the decorations were a combination of Mughal and Turkish architecture.

Khan Jahan Ali was a good ruler. He built many mosques. Among them, The ‘Shat Gambuj Mosque’ is the best and remarkable. It has 60 pillars that support the roof with 77 low height domes.

The 4 towers at 4 corners have smaller domes at the top as well. The vast prayer Hall has 11 arched doorways on the east and 7 each north and south for light and ventilation.

The west wall in the interior has 11 ‘mihrabs’. These mihrabs are decorated with stonework and terracotta. The floor of the Mosque is made of brick.

It is one of the greatest architectural beauties of Bangladesh and the greatest tourist attraction in Bangladesh.
